Complex Triple Crisis: Iran and the Arabian Gulf

France-Iran-USA, Cooperation and Confrontation - Policy Analysis #2 - Hichem Karoui - Gulf Futures Center

Europe-Iran relations remain a complex issue : France is playing a game of interests despite its rhethoric of values. For the Élysée, Iran is no different than any other country in the Middle East and France sees no argument to dictate otherwise than does its own sovereign interest. Paris partners in Washington DC and in Riyadh do not agree on Iran being a normal modern state as  they know that the ultimate decisions in regard to foreign relations come from the Supreme Leader, not from the elected president. This policy analysis paper discusses the views of France and USA about Iran as well as their contrasting attitudes towards Tehran.
